Summertime is here! And so is the opportunity for helping your children learn to care for their teeth. The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends three ways you can help your children keep their beautiful smiles despite the summer.
- First, be sure to continue brushing. It's easy with the changes in routine to forget brushing and flossing. Try to brush and floss your children's teeth at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.
- Second, limit grazing and sugary drinks. Soda, lemonade, Cool-Aid and other sugary drinks can cause damage quickly to your child's teeth. Snacking during the day leaves plenty of fuel for the bacteria that cause decay. Be careful, especially, of fruit gummies and other chewy foods that may seem healthy but are full of sugar and stick to the teeth.
- Make your regular exam and cleaning dental appointment early. Everyone wants to have an exam and cleaning right before school starts, so be sure to make your appointment early so that we can be sure to see your family.
